The Whole Scientist: A Leadership Course at JAX Genomic Medicine
September 24-27, 2024
I had the opportunity to attend The Whole Scientist, a four-day NIH-funded course held September 24-27, 2024 at JAX Genomic Medicine in Farmington, Connecticut. The course is designed for PhD students and postdoctoral scientists and focuses on building the professional, interpersonal, and communication skills needed to succeed as a leader in biomedicine and basic science research.
Over the course of the program, we worked through a series of seminars and workshops led by invited experts covering topics like leadership, management, communication, and also discussed in depth the next steps for early career scientists. I found the workshops to be extremely useful, and not solely broad concepts being explained, but rather, gave me actionable steps for my job hunt following the completion of my degree.
